According to a written statement from the Brazilian government, the two leaders discussed the purchase and production of the Sputnik V vaccine and the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade, defense, science and technology.
Also attending the meeting were Foreign Minister Carlos Alberto Franco França, Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga and President of the Brazilian Health Regulatory Authority (ANVISA) Antonio Barra Torres.
Bolsonaro stated that the meeting, where he shared his images from his social media account, was very productive and the problem related to the Sputnik V vaccine will be solved after the approval of the drug regulatory agency.
Sputnik V not approved for emergency use in Brazil
The Brazilian pharmaceutical company Uniao Quimica, which has a partnership with the Russian Direct Investment Fund, announced on 30 March that Sputnik V was piloted in Brazil, but the vaccine is not approved for use in this country.
The first application made by Uniao Quimica for the emergency use approval of Sputnik V in January was not analyzed due to the missing documents and the pharmaceutical company made the second application on March 26.
Although it is included in the current vaccination plan in the country, it was announced that Brazil has agreed to purchase 10 million doses of the Sputnik V vaccine, which is not approved for emergency use in the country.
